Description:Springville Public Library seeks a qualified candidate for a full time benefited librarian position. Under the direction of the Library Director, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the management and administration of the programs and services for children in the library. This position will be responsible for the training, supervision and evaluation of department staff and planning, presenting and evaluating all library programs for children.This person plays a key role in providing readerís advisory assistance for children as well as evaluating and selecting material for the childrenís collection.
Duties:Plans and conducts programs for children to encourage reading, viewing and listening of library materials to create lifelong readers. Evaluates and selects materials of interest to children for purchase. Develops a balanced, current collection in all formats based on authoritative evaluations and recommendations utilizing professional and social site reviews and merchandises these materials to the public. Performs reference and reader's advisory services in person, by telephone and by e-mail, using a variety of formats. Provides services and collaborates with area schools, public and government organizations in promoting literacy and library services. Participates in major projects as required, including capital campaigns, marketing and public relations. Represents the library, makes financial decisions, contributes in development and implementation of policies. Searches for, writes and implements grants.
Qualifications:Must have a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school or equivalent education and experience. Must have a strong background in children's literature and knowledge of children's behaviors. Knowledge of library policies, practices and procedures. Good communication, conflict management, time management and organizational skills.
