City Parks Supervisor - IN HOUSE APPLICANTS ONLY

Description:Under the general direction of the Buildings and Grounds Director, the Parks Supervisor is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of some or all of the City Parks, Canyon Parks, City Cemeteries, Urban Forestry for all City properties, open spaces, trails, and scheduling, maintenance, and risk management of the Grounds divisions. This position is also responsible for tracking department expenditures and staying within the approved budget.

Duties:-Supervises the overall operation of the grounds he/she is assigned within City Parks, Canyon Parks, City Cemeteries, Urban Forestry for all City properties, open spaces, trails, and other public properties.

-Organizes staff and schedules work. Oversees maintenance, training, motivating, planning, and general supervision.
-Responsible for rodent control and supervises application of all chemicals/fertilizers.
-Oversees use and maintenance of all Grounds equipment and the proper training for the use of equipment.
-Assists the Buildings and Grounds Director with implementing and executing a monthly safety training program and promoting employee safety each day.
-Oversees the proper maintenance training of the grounds, structures, trees, playgrounds, facilities, and landscapes.
-Oversees snow removal from City parking lots, cemeteries, facility sidewalks, parks sidewalks, and trails.
-Performs and supervises park improvement projects.
-Is available to be on call for Buildings and Grounds Department issues as directed by the Buildings and Grounds Director. This position must be able to respond to issues within a reasonable amount of time.
-All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:Must be a high school graduate. Post high school education in a related field is preferred, but not required. Must have at least 3 years experience in parks/cemeteries maintenance or related field. Parks, Cemetery, and Urban Forestry operations experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Utah driver License.


Must have the skills and abilities to supervise a varied staff. Must have a working knowledge of park maintenance, tree maintenance, tree planting, sprinkler system maintenance, park facility maintenance, cemetery maintenance, fertilization, herbicide application, and maintenance and operation of related equipment. Must be able to perform park improvement labor such as concrete work, planting and installing landscapes, installing sprinkling systems, installing park amenities, etc. Must have the ability to interact with the public and to resolve problems and provide public service. Must be able to communicate well with employees, supervisors, administration, and City Council. Must have basic computer skills.
Must be generally available and be able to respond to emergency “call-outs” at any time of day, year round, regardless of weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside in all weather conditions. The employee will be required to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl, and regularly lift over 40 lbs. The position may require a 7:00 a.m. start time during the work week. Ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends as assigned. Office and administrative work will be required.
